Who runs this site

SA VAT Calculator is run by Word2Mouse (opens in new tab), a Johannesburg web studio. We build small, focused tools that load quickly, work on any device and respect your privacy.

Why it exists

Adding or removing VAT is simple in principle but easy to get wrong in practice, for example by taking 15% off a VAT-inclusive price or by rounding inconsistently. This site gives you an exact answer to the cent, states its rounding rule, and explains the formulas so you can check the result yourself.

How we check our figures

• The VAT rate and registration thresholds are taken from official SARS pages and dated when checked. Each guide lists its sources.
• The calculator uses exact whole-cent arithmetic and is covered by automated tests, including rounding edge cases.
• Calculations run entirely in your browser. Amounts you type are never sent to us.
